Thomastik Dominant 4/4 Size Violin Strings

These strings have a highly flexible, multi-strand nylon core and cater to artists who feel uncomfortable with steel strings. Dominant string deliver tone and response comparable to gut strings, without gut's attendant drawbacks.

The sound of the Dominant string is full and mellow, yet rich in overtones. Its radiance and ability to project sound without being metallic comes to the fore both in arco and pizzicato passages. Other advantages are Dominant's effortless response to intricate fingering and its tuning stability even under extreme atmospheric conditions.

Dominant strings should be changed at appropriate intervals to ensure continuity of tone color.

A Solid String

By Anna Hennessy from Charlottesville, VA on 2/17/2011 10:08:17 PM

I have used Dominant strings as an affordable standby since my days as a beginning violinist. They are simply the best deal on mid-range strings to be found. Their famous clarity and response, as well as longevity, make them a favorite among string players and teachers worldwide. As a professional musician, I tend to spend more on my strings these days, but I always recommend Dominants to my students as the string of choice.

I love these!

By Ellen from Joshua, TX on 2/17/2011 12:24:18 PM

This is my second set of strings and I'm loving them! They have a very good tone (they don't sound metallic at all) and are very responsive (they don't squeak as much as my previous strings, Red Label Super Sensitive). While I am still a beginner, I wouldn't recommend these for an absolute beginner.

Dominan strings for students

By Carolyn Tackett from Mt. Pleasant, Sc on 2/15/2011 9:57:31 PM

I always recommend these strings for my students on account of their mellow tone. The all-steel student varieties are harsh sounding and can give an uncomfortable feeling to the ears. Parents who are sensitive to this comment how their chidren's practicing is more bearable to hear with the Dominant strings. They are definitely worth paying a liitle more to give student violins warmth of sound.
