VanDoren 5RV

By Danelle Pecht from Katy, TX on 2/15/2011 10:14:23 PM

Perhaps the most well known Bb mouthpiece on the market today. It gives a slightly harsher sound than the M13 and plays a little bit sharp on most Buffet clarinets. However, with practice a good tone is still easy to obtain. It is very easy to play loud with this mouthpiece, so it is good for marching band or other environments that require a piercing sound. Good for beginners; slightly better is the 5RV lyre, the longer facing of which allows the reed to vibrate more freely. Good for all reed strengths.
