Greatness acheived

By Saxplayer 16 from New York city New york on 2/16/2010 11:55:02 PM

After playing this saxophone for the first time after playing Yamaha's 23 beginer sax for 3 years felt great. It's keywork was some of the best I'de seen in a while and I've played on selmers beginer model as well as their La Voix model and this sax beat them by a long run in my opinion.I loved the shiny lacqured body .I just wish there had been some more engavings on the bell and it would have been the sax of my dreams.Well apearance aside the mouthpeice it comes with it pretty standard and isn't very good for a step up player to advance on.I sugest a C* because it offers a warmer sound and is easy to control .Also a nice meyer jazz mouthpeice will work fine to and both for a pretty good price if u search for it.The 62 style neck is great for progecting a nice clean crisp sound .Its light yet durable for the more clumsy players. The case comes with a locking mechanism with a key to prevent theft something I look for in a good case.Overall this is one of the best Intermediate saxes out there and is a great step up horn for players who need more out of an instrument than the Yas-23 or the jupiter beginer model can offer them.Great Job yamaha keep up the great work.

Lives up its "intermediate" rating

By Caleb Moseley from Chesapeake, VA on 2/16/2011 10:58:36 PM

Now intermediate is not a bad thing! It's the perfect saxophone for the more advanced middle school or early high school player. I've had this saxophone since seventh grade (I'm a high school senior now) and it has done everything I've ever asked it to do; whether that was concert band, marching band or jazz band. It has a great sound (especially with a Selmer C* mouth piece) and excellent build quality. So if you're looking for a step up from your or your child's beginner instrument but you don't want to spend $3,000+ on a professional model, definitely get this saxophone. It's worth the money and it'll definitely change the experience of playing an alto sax for the better.
