Three blendable gain voices from fuzz to glitch

Crack open the Catalinbread Cold One glitch fuzz pedal and you get a modernized take on the cult-classic DOD Punkifier, with three distinct gain voices: distortion, conventional fuzz and an arpeggiating glitch fuzz that can be isolated or blended together. Gain controls the distortion side, Fuzz Blend balances distortion against the fuzz section, and Glitch blends standard fuzz with the more fractured, arpeggiating sound. Together, these controls take players from cleaner drive textures to thick fuzz and unpredictable glitch effects. An active Tone control emphasizes lower or higher frequencies, while buffered input and output stages help the pedal work in different signal-chain positions. For guitarists and bassists seeking familiar drive, dense fuzz and more experimental textures, the Cold One offers a broad tonal range through a straightforward five-knob layout.

Three Gain Circuits Blend Into One Voice

The Cold One combines distortion, conventional fuzz and glitch fuzz circuits that can operate individually or together. Turning Fuzz Blend fully toward distortion isolates that circuit, while turning it fully toward fuzz removes the distortion from the mix. Within the fuzz section, the Glitch control moves continuously from standard fuzz to a more fractured, arpeggiating texture, with intermediate settings combining both. Lowering the distortion Gain also allows that side to function as a cleaner signal path, making Fuzz Blend useful as a clean blend when playing bass. These controls let players move between distinct gain textures without changing pedals.

Active Tone Control Shapes the Overall Response

Unlike a conventional passive tone control, the Cold One uses an active circuit that emphasizes lower or higher frequencies rather than simply cutting them. This provides additional tonal shaping across the pedal's distortion, fuzz and glitch sounds, from fuller low-end-heavy textures to sharper sounds with greater high-frequency emphasis. Volume adjusts the overall output, while Gain controls the distortion circuit, allowing its contribution to change without directly adjusting the fuzz or glitch settings. Combined with the two blend controls, this arrangement provides flexible control over the pedal's output and tonal character.

Punkifier Roots Meet Modern Glitch Fuzz Control

Catalinbread draws inspiration from the DOD Punkifier, a cult-favorite pedal associated with Graham Coxon's guitar work in Blur, including the solo on "Coffee & TV." The Cold One retains the original concept of blending fuzz and distortion while adding a dedicated glitch-fuzz circuit and expanded control ranges. Buffered input and output stages help the pedal integrate into different signal-chain positions, while support for 18V operation provides another power option. From straightforward drive and fuzz to layered, fractured and arpeggiating sounds, the Catalinbread Cold One pedal brings expanded versatility to a distinctive distortion-and-fuzz design.
