Lo-fi delay with radio, tape and digital TV artifacts.

Before pristine digital audio, transmission came with artifacts—and the Catalinbread EG1 lo-fi delay pedal turns those imperfections into part of the effect. Three signal-transmission modes explore distinctly different forms of degradation: Radio narrows and filters repeats, Tape introduces mechanical wobble and distortion, and Digital Television adds downsampling and digital artifacts. From there, feedback, mix, transmission, delay time and mode-dependent modulation controls provide hands-on shaping, while integrated tap tempo keeps rhythmic repeats easy to dial in. The result is a delay that can move from tight country slapback and worn tape echoes to smeared shoegaze walls and fractured, unstable textures.

Three Modes for Distinct Lo-Fi Delay Character

Radio mode adds high-pass and lo-fi filtering with front-end radio-style artifacts, giving repeats a narrowed, distant or broadcast-like quality. Tape mode introduces mechanical wobble and distortion depth for the warble associated with wow and flutter. Digital Television mode shifts into more fractured territory with Nyquist error, digital downsampling and slight bitcrushing. Together, the three modes give players distinct starting points for shaping everything from subtly aged echoes to deliberately degraded and unstable delay sounds.

Mode-Specific Mod and Transmission Controls

The Mod knob changes function with the selected mode, adjusting filtering in Radio mode, modulation rate in Tape mode and Nyquist error ratio in Digital Television mode. The Transmission control governs the depth or blend of each mode-specific artifact, letting players determine how strongly the degraded character colors the repeats. Feedback sends the processed signal back through the delay line, progressively intensifying those artifacts as repeats build and pushing the EG1 into self-oscillation at extreme settings.

Tap Tempo and Wide Mix Control for Modern Pedalboards

With up to approximately 900 ms of delay time, the EG1 covers short slapback echoes as readily as spacious, atmospheric repeats. The mix control travels from fully dry to fully wet, supporting conventional delay blends as well as wet-only processing, while integrated tap tempo provides hands-free rhythmic control. LED colors indicate classic, tap input and tap bypass modes for quick visual reference. From rhythmic echoes to damaged transmission textures, the Catalinbread EG1 lo-fi delay pedal puts an unconventional palette of lo-fi delay sounds under direct, pedalboard-friendly control.
