Classic Hiwatt response meets modern high-gain power.

Hiwatt has built its reputation on massive clean headroom and uncompromising response, but the Hiwatt Super-Hi 33 turns that foundation toward an altogether more aggressive purpose. Based on the Custom Super-Hi, this compact 30W tube head combines Hiwatt's trademark clarity and punch with a cascaded high-gain preamp designed for everything from muscular crunch to dense, saturated distortion. Two channels feature independent Gain and Master controls, while the footswitchable, channel-independent Super-Hi boost pushes either voice into another level of saturation for four distinct gain and volume combinations. A pair of 6V6 power tubes provides tight bass response and useful headroom at manageable output levels, complemented by three-band EQ, Presence and Depth controls for precise tonal shaping. A clean post-preamp effects loop keeps modulation and time-based effects clear after the gain stages, completing a focused high-gain Hiwatt built for modern rigs.

Dual Gain Channels for Four Levels of Saturation

Four ECC83 preamp tubes drive the Super-Hi 33's cascaded-gain architecture, giving both channels the range to move from articulate crunch into increasingly saturated high-gain territory. Gain One and Gain Two each feature dedicated Gain and Master controls, allowing their drive levels and output volumes to be balanced independently for contrasting rhythm, lead or alternate gain sounds. From there, the channel-independent Super-Hi boost can push either voice deeper into saturation, effectively expanding the two-channel layout into four distinct gain and volume states. Both channel selection and the Super-Hi boost are footswitchable, putting that range within immediate reach while preserving the tight response and note definition that keep complex chords and fast passages articulate under heavy gain.

6V6 Power and Depth Control for Tight Low-End Authority

A pair of 6V6 output tubes gives the Super-Hi 33 30 watts of pure tube power, balancing useful headroom with the more manageable output of a compact amplifier head. Voiced for solid, tight bass response, the power section provides a controlled foundation for the substantial gain generated by the preamp, helping low notes retain punch and definition as saturation increases. Bass, Middle and Treble controls provide familiar core EQ shaping, while Presence adjusts upper-frequency response for added bite and immediacy. A dedicated Depth control extends that shaping into the low end, letting players fine-tune resonance and weight to suit different guitars, cabinets and playing environments without sacrificing the focused response at the heart of the amp.

Post-Preamp Effects Loop for Clear Effects Integration

With so much of the Super-Hi 33's character generated through cascaded preamp gain, Hiwatt places its effects loop after the preamp to give modulation, delay and reverb a clean path around the amp's most heavily saturated stages. This placement helps time-based effects retain clarity and separation rather than being driven through the preamp distortion, making it easier to build detailed high-gain sounds without sacrificing ambience or movement. Dedicated send and return connections provide straightforward integration with pedalboards and outboard effects, while dual 1/4" speaker outputs offer flexible connection to compatible cabinets. Together with footswitchable channel and boost control, the loop makes the Super-Hi 33 a practical centerpiece for modern high-gain rigs.

Modern High Gain With Unmistakable Hiwatt Response

For players who want serious saturation without giving up clarity, punch or dynamic control, the Hiwatt Super-Hi 33 takes the brand's famously responsive character into decidedly heavier territory. Its cascaded preamp and independent channel controls provide enough range to build contrasting rhythm and lead voices, while the Super-Hi boost adds another layer of gain whenever more intensity is required. Tight 6V6 power, flexible low-end shaping and an effects-friendly signal path keep those sounds controlled and adaptable across rehearsal, recording and live rigs. Compact but uncompromising in its approach, the Super-Hi 33 offers a distinctly Hiwatt take on the modern high-gain tube head.
