Step up your recordings with Phonitor Matrix and the Talkback microphone.
The SPL Crimson 3 is an audio interface with analog monitoring. Crimson 3 is ready for your studio, with two mic preamps, four balanced line inputs, two instrument inputs, two stereo headphone amplifiers, and four speaker outputs. The Crimson 3 is capable of recording and playing back up to 6 channels with 24-bit/192khz. New to the Crimson 3 is the Phonitor Matrix and Talkback microphone. It meets all your recording needs in any setting—from the studio to your home office.

Phonitor Matrix
In the headphone amplifier, you'll find the Phonitor Matrix, with an adjustable crossfeed, so you can create mixes with headphones that sound the same on speakers. Phonitor Matrix enables correct mixing on headphones, removes the super stereo effect, and calculates the inter-aural levels and time differences.

With a traditional headphone amplifier, the right ear only perceives the right signal, and the left ear only perceives the left signal. The Phonitor Matrix creates a more speaker-like experience, but on headphones. Instruments appear on the correct position within the stereo image. Just like mixing on speakers, you have a true image of effects like reverb and delay in the mix.

In its largest expansion stage, the Phonitor Matrix has three setting parameters: Crossfeed, Speaker Angle and Center Level. Crossfeed approximates influences like room size, reflection and absorption characteristics. In the Crimson 3, the center level is preset to -1 dB and the speaker angle to 30 degrees. These are the most commonly used values. The crossfeed function determines the crosstalk of the channels, or the so-called inter-aural level difference. The intensity of the crossfeed is fully variable.

Talkback Microphone
When recording other artists, give them their own headphone mix with the Artist Mode, and use the Talkback function by pressing the Talk button to communicate with them.
