Expandable 32-bit USB audio interface with analog-inspired tone shaping and onboard compression.

Put the tone of a finished record into the signal path before the performance ever reaches the DAW. The Universal Audio Volt 2 Max 10-in/4-out USB audio interface combines two Tone Shaping Preamps, onboard Max dynamics processing and 32-bit/192kHz conversion with a full-color Smart Display, Auto-Gain and Clip Protection. Three harmonic character modes—Warmth, Focus and Shine—provide Tube, Solid State and British Class-A-inspired character, while six Max compressor presets add tracking-ready dynamics for vocals, guitars and bass. Two mic/line inputs with front-panel Hi-Z instrument connections handle the core recording setup, while ADAT or S/PDIF optical expansion, MIDI I/O and an onboard USB hub provide room for a studio to grow. Add two headphone outputs, built-in talkback, loopback, USB bus power and an extensive collection of UAD software, and Volt 2 Max becomes a compact production hub for recording, collaboration and content creation.

Tone Shaping and Max Processing Create 18 Sonic Combinations

Each of the two preamps provides 60dB of digitally controlled gain along with three harmonic character modes for shaping the source before recording. Warmth introduces Tube-inspired color, Focus brings a Solid State-style response, and Shine adds British Class-A-inspired presence. Max processing takes the front end further with six push-button compression presets tuned for sources including vocals, acoustic guitar and bass, drawing inspiration from classic 1176 and LA-2A compression. Pairing the three Tone modes with the six Max settings provides 18 character combinations, giving musicians and engineers a fast way to move from clean capture to more produced tracking tones without building a separate analog processing chain.

Smart Display Auto-Gain and Clip Protection Streamline Tracking

A full-color Smart Display keeps input levels, settings and gain reduction visible at a glance, reducing the need to rely on software while setting up a session. Auto-Gain establishes recording levels in seconds, while Clip Protection responds to unexpected peaks to help keep dynamic performances from overloading the recording path. Two studio-quality headphone outputs share a cue mix for performer and engineer monitoring, and the built-in talkback microphone simplifies communication with talent during recording. UAD Console and LUNA integration adds session recall and low-latency cue mixing for workflows that need more detailed control.

ADAT MIDI and USB Expansion Let the Studio Grow

Although the interface starts with two analog mic/line inputs with front-panel Hi-Z instrument connections, its 10-in/4-out architecture leaves room for larger sessions. Optical ADAT adds up to eight digital input channels at 44.1/48kHz, with S/MUX supporting four channels at 96kHz or two at 192kHz, while optical S/PDIF provides two channels across supported sample rates. MIDI In and Out connect synths, controllers and other compatible hardware, and an onboard USB hub can connect peripherals or supply power to an external MIDI controller. Independent 48V phantom power on both microphone channels further supports flexible combinations of condenser mics and other sources.

32-Bit Conversion and Bus Power Support Mobile Recording

High-resolution 32-bit conversion operates at sample rates up to 192kHz, with the mic and line inputs delivering 119dB A-weighted dynamic range and the balanced monitor outputs reaching 126dB. USB bus power allows the unit to work from compatible computers and mobile devices without an external supply when sufficient power is available. Built-in loopback blends live sources with computer playback for podcasts, livestreams and other content workflows, extending the interface beyond traditional music production. Class-compliant connectivity supports compatible Mac, iPad and iPhone systems, with Windows operation supported through UA's ASIO driver.

UAD Plug-Ins and LUNA Complete the Desktop Production System

The included UAD Volt Studio Bundle adds LUNA Digital Audio Workstation plus a collection of production tools including the UA 610 Tube Preamp & EQ Collection, Century Tube Channel Strip, Teletronix LA-2A Tube Compressor, UA 1176 Classic FET Compressor, Pure Plate Reverb, Galaxy Tape Echo, Oxide Tape Recorder, PolyMAX and Anthem synths, and UAD guitar amps. Additional software from Celemony, Plugin Alliance, UJAM, Splice and UVI expands the package with pitch correction, bass processing, virtual drums, virtual bass and instruments, along with three months of FL Studio Producer Edition. From two-source tracking today to expanded ADAT sessions later, the Universal Audio Volt 2 Max combines analog-inspired tone, onboard dynamics and scalable connectivity in a desktop interface built to grow with the studio.
