Some overdrive pedals are built to push an amp, but the Warm Audio Dirty Boy Jr. Overdrive is designed to work as an overdrive, preamp and all-analog amp simulator in one compact stompbox. Created in collaboration with boutique pedal manufacturer Dirty Boy Co., this Jr. version recreates the Dirty Boy Preamp circuit with proprietary T.A.E. tube amp emulation technology for touch-sensitive response, tube-like harmonic saturation and dynamic cleanup. Gain, tone, volume and variac controls shape everything from transparent boost to saturated breakup, compression and voltage-starved textures, while dedicated preamp and speaker-emulated outputs make the pedal useful on stage, in the studio or direct into a rig.
Dirty Boy Preamp Character in a Pedalboard Format
Warm Audio worked with Dirty Boy CEO Danny Gomez to capture the amp-like tone and boutique overdrive feel of the original hand-built Dirty Boy Preamp pedal. The all-analog circuit can function as a tube-style boost, overdrive, FX-loop preamp or standalone amp simulator, giving players a flexible foundation for traditional amp rigs and direct setups alike. Its response is voiced for vintage British-style amplifiers, with enough range to cover edge-of-breakup rhythm sounds, saturated lead tones and more compressed drive textures.
T.A.E. Technology and Variac Control
The proprietary T.A.E. tube amp emulation circuit gives the Dirty Boy Jr. Overdrive its amp-simulation behavior, while the speaker-emulated output is voiced after a closed-back 4x12 Greenback-style cabinet. That output allows the pedal to connect directly to mixers, interfaces, front-of-house systems or FRFR speakers without requiring a traditional amplifier. The variac control introduces sag and compression through calibrated voltage reduction, helping simulate the feel of older tube amps at different stages of breakup.
Analog Signal Path for Live and Studio Rigs
True analog signal path design, 1/4" input, preamp output and emulated output jacks make the Dirty Boy Jr. Overdrive adaptable for pedalboards, recording setups and direct-performance rigs. The compact metal enclosure features authentic Dirty Boy boutique styling and runs on standard 9V center-negative power. Hand-tested in Austin, TX, the Warm Audio Dirty Boy Jr. Overdrive pedal brings boutique overdrive, preamp tone, variac-style sag and direct amp-sim utility into a road-ready format.
