Its The Simplicity Expected
Before purchasing, I reviewed several other popular PA systems. I liked the simplicity of adjusting and operation. Love the the Bluetooth feature. I can play music off my phone instead of connecting an MP3 player to my keyboard or loading a flash drive. Another great thing is the small dolly it comes on for ease of movement and especially the cover that holds the 3 piece tower and pockets for the literature or anything else you wish to store like the power chord. Only having it for two months, have not come across anything as of yet that I would say needs improvement. This PA acts as my speaker for my Genos keyboard. This is the first system that replicates the exact sounds of all the instruments coming out of the keyboard without distortion.
Beautiful Full Range Sound! with minor shortcomings...
I would have given it 5 stars but, After using my Stagepas 1K I realized I couldn't choose which channels went out the Monitor send which I use with a small powered monitor. It's because I'm playing an acoustic Drum kit and Singing along with Tracks I create in my studio for my Solo Shows. I have a Vocal mic and a Kick Drum Mic and I can't remove the Kick Mic from the Monitor, which I need to do. Even with the App it enables some features but NOT that. Had I thought it through I probably would have saved some money and bought the DXL1K because, I'm having to use a small format mixer to achieve my set up. Still, I am enjoying the great sound from the Stagepas 1K. I do realize my situation of not wanting the Kick Drum in the small Vocal monitor is something not many would ask about...But for me it's Important. I also did not think through placement of the 1K as I'm seated at a Drum Kit while mixing myself. And No, I would not prefer use and E-Kit...although I like them for recording! Thank You Yamaha for making sold, road worthy Gear as I own Other Yamaha Equipment (CBR10 speakers , Yamaha Mixers etc).
Old school guy
Nothing is perfect in this world but i chose this unit because it sounds great, is simple to use, and is light enough to transport fairly easily for an old guy. I have been in bands since i was 14 in 1966. I dislike digital menus becuase it takes so much time to find your way through the menu's. This unit has analog controls that i can adjust even while i am playing if i want. I tried to download the App. on both my Android phone and my I-Pad but had no luck, getting the same error messages someone else also stated in their review. i will probably only use the analog controls on the unit itself anyways. The included case is a great bonus. I considered other similar and dissimilar PA's but this one was the best for what i want. I also own their MX-88 and CP73 keyboards. The CP 73 has analog controls too which make it so easy to set up. and plays and sounds great. I am very impressed with Yamaha's fine engineering and design. At home, I usually run the control room outputs on my mixer-recorder through TRS cables to the ST channel on the PA but leave it in mono mode. For a gig i use the mixer on the PA for piano, guitar and vocal inputs. The manual suggests running a XLR cable from a mixing console to the link, but my Tascam mixer has stereo control room outputs with neither being mono so i use the ST input instead to get both channels into the PA.
Top-notch hardware, control app has major flaw
The hardware is fantastic. I've used similar EVOX, JBL, and HK Audio column arrays—all good products—but this one tops them all. My only complaint is the app. While it works on my iPad, it shows numerical DB values only for the main outputs—and fails to display the numerical DB value for each individual channel. This means I have to adjust channel volume using the physical knobs on the unit, which is OK, but when I arrive at a gig I want to check the digital values in the app before I start playing, which I cannot do. This is a major drawback. I have the latest Yamaha app, the latest iPad operating system, and the latest Android operating system (yet I get an "this application is not supported" message when I try to download it to my phone). I visited Yamaha's flagship music store in Ginza earlier this month to check out the StagePas 100 and while there explained the problem (in excellent Japanese) to one of the staff (understandably they had no idea what I was talking about). Of course I did not have the unit with me, so no joy. Would certainly like to get a fix for this problem!
Excellent with a caveat
I own the first generation, however I was hoping for phantom power in the mark 2 A major flaw, I would have upgraded to get that feature. Now I'm carrying a separate phantom power supply. Not fun
