Great Great Product

I am a high school sophomore who needed a new "forever" sax for the remainder of high school, college, and so forth. The Yamaha 62-III is the best sax on the market, and has changed my playing experience 1000%. It is a breeze to play and the sound is absolutely fantastic. Classmates, private teacher...

I play in a local community band and as I got promoted to first chair, I realized I needed a better sax. This saxophone is amazing. I can hit all the upper register much more easily in tune, but it sounds good from top to bottom. Intonation is a huge improvement. I just feel I have so much more control.

I am 83 years old and I waited seventy years to buy a new saxophone. Decided on the Yamaha YAS 62. Very happy with my choice. I am playing my new Yamaha 62 every day. It's a joy to play. I also play the keyboard, guitar and the drums.

I traveled all to way to Japan to buy this Yamaha Alto YAS-62 saxophone at the Yamaha Ginza store in Tokyo. I was running late for my flight back to the United States, so I purchased the Alto without playing it first, thinking that it would be fine because Yamaha has a good reputation of making fine musical instruments. When I got back home in California and I finally tried the instrument, I was so disappointed to find out that the saxophone did not sound good at all. It has a horrible leaky sound and is not very pleasing to the ears. What a big disappointment. I thought I was going to get a great instrument by buying it directly from a flagship Yamaha store, but it did not turn out as I had hoped for. After months of denial, I finally decided to use a leak light to make sure that I was not hearing things. And lo and behold, I am right, the saxophone has air leaks all over the place! Not on one but on several keys. And I was even extra careful when I transported the Alto by hand-carrying it with me inside the plane on the way back to the states just to make sure that nothing bad happens to it. So, the instrument was defective to begin with coming out of the Yamaha flagship store in Ginza in Tokyo when I bought it. Now I will need to take this expensive, now worthless, brand-new instrument to a repair shop and spend additional money just to hopefully get it fixed. If it can even be fixed. It's not fair. Next time I think of buying a musical instrument, I will check out other brands first.

I've owned several Yamaha saxophones over the years. Including two series ii's and and custom ex. I bought this 62 for my daughter and was horribly disappointed in the quality of the horn. Yamahas have always been a high quality, priced competitively, no issue horn. Our brand new 62 came with several issues sealing in the right hand and lower notes. My mechanic was able to get everything fixed but it was very frustrating to pay out of pocket to fix a brand new horn.

A great step-up horn for the advanced player

The horn produced a big sound right out of the box. It blows easily in the low register and can produce a variety of timbres from soft, fuzzy low tones to growling and screaming upper register. The 62 neck is brilliant! I love that there is less resistance blowing the middle C than my old horn, and every note comes out easily. Altissimo notes come out much cleaner than on my vintage YAS21 and the high F# adds a few more chromatic altissimo notes to my arsenal with accurate tuning. The biggest drawback is the modern front F key that crowds my left index finger and gets pressed accidentally at times. Hopefully with a little practice, this will be less of an annoyance.
