This delightful medley includes some of Scotland's best known folk songs. Beginning with a martial snare drum solo, Scotland the Brave features muted trumpets accompanied by a woodwind drone, simulating the traditional Scottish Highland bagpipes. Brief musical excerpts from My Love She's But a Lassy Yet and Loch Lomond lead to the familiar Comin' Thro' the Rye. The flutes and alto saxophones are then featureed in a contrapuntal excerpt from the Scots reel, I Wish You Would Marry Me Now. The beautiful Ca' the Ewes to the Knowes is first orchestrated for brass choir, then woodwind choir, then full band. The clarinets begin an elongated version of Auld Lang Syne, accompanied by the flutes playing Scotland the Brave. The entire band continues with Auld Lang Syne, which builds to an exciting and dramatic conclusion. (4:00)
