Love the look and feel of an acoustic drum set but want the versatility of electronic drums? The Gretsch Catalina EVO J484 4-piece electronic drum set brings both worlds together with full-size shells, responsive mesh heads and a sound module loaded with authentic Gretsch drum samples. The four-piece configuration includes an 18" bass drum, 10" rack tom, 12" floor tom and 14" snare, providing a compact, familiar playing layout. The Catalina EVO module offers more than 500 multilayer sounds, extensive kit editing and versatile connectivity. Combining the physical presence of acoustic drums with electronic sound customization, the Catalina EVO J484 provides an expressive platform for practice, recording and live performance.
Authentic Gretsch Drum Samples With Natural Dynamics
High-resolution recordings of Gretsch USA Custom, Brooklyn and Broadkaster drums form the foundation of the Catalina EVO sound library. The module includes 50 factory kit presets, 128 user kit slots and more than 500 multilayer instrument sounds, offering a wide selection of drum voices and configurations. Round-robin sampling introduces natural variation between successive hits, while ambient microphone layers capture the depth and character of the recording space. Additional snare-bottom and subkick microphone samples provide further options for shaping snare and bass drum tones.
Full-Size Shells and Mesh Heads Deliver Acoustic-Style Feel
Full-size acoustic-style shells give the Catalina EVO J484 the familiar layout and playing experience of a traditional drum set. Three-ply True Rebound mesh heads on the snare and toms provide responsive stick feel, while dual-zone triggering distinguishes between head and rim strokes. The bass drum's dual-sensor trigger system supports double-pedal playing. A 14" hi-hat, 16" crash and 18" ride feature three-zone bow, bell and edge triggering across 360-degree playable surfaces, with choke functionality on the crash and ride. The hi-hat's bottom cymbal and controller work with a conventional stand for a familiar playing experience.
Extensive Sound Editing and Remote App Control
The Catalina EVO module provides detailed control over instrument selection, sound shaping and trigger response. Its 2.7" OLED display offers visual feedback, while four independent effects blocks—Ambient Samples, Instrument Reverb, Room Reverb and Multi-Effects—expand sound-shaping possibilities. Per-pad compression and three-band EQ let drummers refine individual instrument dynamics and tone. The Gretsch E-Drum Remote app extends control to compatible devices, providing access to kit customization, trigger settings and practice functions.
Bluetooth, USB and Direct Outputs Expand Recording Options
Bluetooth audio and MIDI connectivity support wireless audio playback and MIDI communication with compatible devices. USB-C audio and MIDI provide DAW integration, with eight USB audio outputs and four inputs for multichannel recording and playback workflows. Two main audio outputs and four direct outputs offer connection options for external mixers and recording equipment, while 1/4" and 1/8" headphone jacks support personal monitoring. The module also records stereo WAV audio directly to a USB flash drive and includes metronome and coaching functions for focused practice.
Complete Four-Piece Setup With Gretsch Explorer Hardware
The included Gretsch Explorer hardware pack features two boom cymbal stands, a hi-hat stand, a snare stand and a single bass drum pedal to support the four-piece configuration. The 18" bass drum, single rack tom and floor tom create a more compact playing layout while retaining the acoustic-style construction of the Catalina EVO series. From high-resolution drum samples and detailed sound customization to multichannel recording, the Gretsch Catalina EVO J484 4-piece electronic drum set combines the familiar playing experience of acoustic drums with the flexibility of electronic percussion.
