Part of the Orange County Drum & Percussion 35th anniversary relaunch, the Raw Copper snare drum delivers a darker, controlled voice built for players who want punch without excessive ring. This 14x6.5" model draws from OCPD’s custom shop heritage, where distinctive materials and bold designs helped define alternative music throughout the ’90s and early 2000s. Built from a 1.5 mm spun red copper shell with a sealed raw finish, it produces a warm, focused tone with smooth articulation and controlled overtones that sit naturally in the mix. Chrome-plated hardware, OCDP offset lugs and Remo UT heads complete a performance-ready snare drum that carries forward OCDP’s custom shop identity with modern reliability.
Spun Red Copper Shell Delivers Warmth, Control and Focused Response
The spun red copper shell gives this snare a darker tonal profile with reduced high-frequency bite and controlled sustain. At 1.5 mm thick, the shell responds quickly while maintaining body and articulation across a wide dynamic range. The 45-degree bearing edges support consistent head contact and tuning stability, allowing players to shape everything from tight, focused articulation to slightly more open response.
Sealed Raw Finish Preserves Natural Character and Visual Identity
The sealed raw copper finish preserves the shell’s natural tonal qualities while adding durability for regular use. Compared to brighter materials like steel or acrylic, copper emphasizes low-end body and smooth response, producing a full backbeat with restrained overtones that remain controlled in live and studio environments. Visually, the raw copper finish also reinforces the drum’s custom-shop-inspired identity with a distinctive, understated look.
Type B Throw-Off and 20-Strand Wires Support Precise Snare Control
The type B side-mounted throw-off provides quick engagement and adjustment for flexible response. Paired with 20-strand snare wires, the drum delivers balanced sensitivity for ghost notes, rolls and articulate backbeats. Small tension changes translate clearly, allowing players to fine-tune their sound without overcorrecting.
Inner-Curved Hoops and OCDP Lugs Maintain Stable Tuning
Additional touches such as 3.0 mm inner-curved steel hoops and 20 zinc OCDP offset lugs create a stable tuning platform that holds up under repeated adjustments. Chrome-plated hardware resists wear during transport and setup, while Remo UT heads come installed for immediate tuning and playability. The result? A dependable, hard-hitting snare drum built for rehearsal, recording and live performance.
The Return of Orange County Drum & Percussion
Born out of Southern California’s underground custom drum scene, Orange County Drum & Percussion became one of the most recognizable boutique drum builders of the 1990s and early 2000s. Known for bold finishes, distinctive hardware and kits built for drummers who wanted to stand out on stage, OCDP earned a loyal following among influential artists across rock and alternative music, including 311, Blink-182, Limp Bizkit, Foo Fighters, NOFX, Slipknot and The Offspring. Now relaunched by Guitar Center to coincide with the brand’s 35th anniversary, OCDP returns with a product lineup inspired by its original custom shop designs while introducing updated builds for today’s drummers. Guided by founder Daniel Jensen and longtime OCDP artist Adrian Young of No Doubt, the new collection carries forward the visual identity and stage-driven attitude that defined the brand, reimagined for a new generation of drummers.
