The sound and feeling are great!
The pTrumpet suits my needs and I always have fun playing it. However, they should do a better job on the water key. It does not work for me. But overall, this product is great!
pTrumpet is great for fun... and the toddler!
Verified Buyer
Bought the pTrumpet for son, DIL, and grand-daughter. Son and DIL both played trumpet in college, and we all thought the pTrumpet would be great for grand-daughter, and it is! (also saves the Bach Strads from toddler destruction)
Impressive
I haven't played trumpet in over 25 years and this is a very inexpensive way to get your chops back into shape. Suggestion, use a metal mouthpiece and not the plastic ones they send with horn. Happy playing!!
Sticky valves from the start!
I cannot believe that I spent money on this trumpet. From the first moment, the valves have stuck and I can't even play but 5 bars without the valves sticking down. When I took the valves out, you can hear the scratching plastic against plastic where they arent cut right. The sound of the thing is really good and it blows super easily. But if you're wanting to actually play more than a scale, do not bother buying this trumpet. I will be passing this on to all music education friends and music instructors I know.
Update: Solution For Sticking Valves
Solution to sticking valves! I took this P-Trumpet 2 to my local repair tech, to see if we could make the valves stop sticking by lapping them. We found that the problem was not the pistons, but rather the valve guides (see photo). These were catching, and that is why the valves were sticking down. The solution was to apply lapping compound on all three sides of the valve guide, and work the valves for 5-10 minutes. Then completely clean off all of the lapping compound. Any qualified instrument repair technician knows how to do this. If your valves are sticking, this is what you should do. You could do it at home with lava soap, probably. But lava soap is more abrasive, so you need to be careful to not over-do it. (1) Apply some lava soap to the valve guides. (2) Work the valves up and down for just 2 minutes. (3) MOST IMPORTANT STEP: Get all the lava soap off with water and a cloth, q-tips, whatever. (4) Try the valves and see if they are better. If not, repeat.
not great
I bought this for my 8-year-old, because she is not strong enough to hold up a real trumpet. It is very lightweight, so she is able to hold it properly. The tone is bad, but no worse than I expected from a plastic trumpet. My main problem is the valves. At least one of them sticks regularly. I am a middle school band director and a trumpet player, so I know how to clean and maintain trumpet valves. Nevertheless, I cannot make these work reliably. The kid cannot learn her fingerings if the valves stick. I will keep at it, trying different oils etc., and hopefully come to a solution. Maybe I just received a bad one. But at this time I could not recommend this instrument because it mechanically does not work correctly.
