Limited-edition FET condenser microphone with handcrafted detail and versatile studio performance.

Some microphones earn their place by doing one thing exceptionally well; the Soyuz 1973 Red Velvet Edition is built to move from source to source without losing its musical identity. This compact FET condenser pairs a clear, open response with the depth and character associated with Soyuz microphones, making it equally comfortable on vocals, guitar cabinets, drum overheads, kick drums and other high-SPL sources. A cardioid polar pattern keeps capture focused, while switchable -10dB and -20dB pads help accommodate louder instruments at close range. This limited Red Velvet Edition gives the studio workhorse a distinctive new finish, with only 40 units produced worldwide, and includes a hand-machined shockmount with a complementary cream finish plus a custom oak suitcase.

S23 Capsule Brings Depth and Character to Every Source

The 1973 uses Soyuz's original S23 capsule, the same capsule design found in the larger 023 Bomblet. Inspired by early-70s LOMO and AKG designs, the S23 reimagines the CK12 architecture with a custom triple-backplate system and center-terminated design. This construction contributes to a deep low end, pronounced midrange and smooth top end that can retain detail on cymbals, vocals and other sources with substantial high-frequency content without exaggerating them. Each capsule is manufactured in-house, with its backplates cut, polished and individually tensioned by hand.

Transformerless FET Circuit Keeps Transients Fast and Clear

A transformerless FET signal path gives this condenser a fast, direct response that preserves transient detail while allowing the character of the S23 capsule and recorded source to remain prominent. Inside the body, a custom-machined resonator reduces unwanted internal resonance and provides additional plosive protection, helping maintain balanced articulation during close placement. That combination makes the mic adaptable to positions ranging from a few inches in front of a guitar cabinet to close drum miking and vocal recording, while its 140dB maximum SPL provides the headroom needed for powerful sources.

Compact Handcrafted Construction Fits Studio Setups

Measuring just 3.94" long x 2.17" in diameter and weighing approximately 10.6 oz., the microphone is easy to position in crowded drum setups, around amplifiers and anywhere larger condensers can become cumbersome. Each unit is handcrafted using traditional manufacturing methods, including bodies turned on a lathe and individually finished capsule components. Operating on 48V phantom power, the 1973 Red Velvet Edition combines its compact construction and versatile performance with a custom shockmount, mic clip and oak suitcase. For engineers seeking a characterful condenser that can move confidently among a wide range of recording duties, the Soyuz 1973 Red Velvet Edition offers handcrafted construction and flexible studio performance in a highly limited release.
