Granular delay textures with stereo control and presets

For players who want repeats to fracture, reverse and shift pitch as they decay, the Walrus Audio Fable MKII Granular Soundscape Generator pedal turns delay into raw material for granular sound design. Five modes pair delay with reverse, octave-shifted, multi-tap and randomized granular processing, using dual feedback paths to move from long reversed swells and bright cascades to dense glitch clouds and randomized pitch scattering. MKII preserves Fable's five delay/granular modes while adding true stereo input and output, three onboard presets plus 127 MIDI presets, full MIDI control, assignable expression or external tap and expanded Tweak and Dive/Rise functions. For ambient layering, experimental transitions and evolving textures, Fable MKII combines its granular sound engine with the routing, recall and real-time control needed for stage and studio work.

Five Modes Reshape Delay Through Granular Processing

Fable's five modes approach granular processing from distinctly different directions. Mode I feeds reverse delay into reverse granular processing for smooth backward swells or stuttering fragments; Mode II pairs forward delay with octave-up grains for bright cascades; and Mode III combines analog-style delay with half-speed octave-down grains for darker, heavier textures. Mode IV stacks two multi-tap granular algorithms into the Grain-Verb mode, while Mode V sends forward delay into randomized grains that can change speed, pitch and playback direction from one sample to the next. Across the five modes, separate Feedback and Regen paths keep processed sounds circulating through the two effects instead of settling into a simple repeating delay.

MKII Control Expands Stereo and Preset Workflow

The MKII architecture adds more control over those five core sound engines without burying them in menus. A dedicated Tweak control cycles through stereo Width, Mod Rate, Mod Shape, Shift and Ramp, letting players narrow or spread the wet signal, set modulation from 0.1–5 Hz, choose sine, square or random modulation, and define the destination and travel time of Dive/Rise. Three presets can be stored directly on the pedal, another 127 are available through MIDI, and expression assignments are saved with each preset. Full MIDI CC access extends to every knob along with mode selection, bypass and tap, while the expression input can instead be configured for external tap control.

Dive/Rise and Stereo I/O Extend Performance Range

Holding the tap footswitch activates Dive/Rise, momentarily shifting the pedal's clock rate toward the selected Shift value and returning when the switch is released; Ramp determines whether that movement happens almost instantly or unfolds over several seconds. True stereo 1/4" inputs and outputs let Fable move from mono-to-stereo expansion into full stereo rigs, while MIDI clock can control delay time from 100–1000 ms in Modes I, II, III and V and sample-rate stretching in Mode IV. Buffered bypass offers Trails or No Trails operation, and USB-C supports firmware updates. Put evolving granular textures, deeper real-time control and expanded stereo routing to work with the Walrus Audio Fable MKII Granular Soundscape Generator pedal.
