Very few brands are so cool that people buy t-shirts, hoodies, jackets and tank tops with their logo on them. And only one of those companies predates the t-shirt by over 200 years. The Zildjian Company, still family-owned, was formed in 1618 Constantinople by Avedis Zildjian. One of the oldest companies in the world, they first produced noisemakers to frighten the enemies of the Ottoman Empire. The cymbal for music evolved from this pursuit as Avedis discovered the way to meld metals successfully. Modern innovations like the high-hat cymbal and the drumset-mounted cymbal have made them the largest cymbal maker in the world.
The company, now located in Norwell, Connecticut, is reputed for building relationships with top musicians. This practice goes back to the days when Avedis III's son Armand Zildjian would hand-pick cymbals for the best musicians around. The result of these relationships is great feedback that factors into the next generation of the products. A recent innovation is the Gen16 Acoustic/Electric Cymbal System, which produces perfect sound while eliminating feedback, crosstalk, and phasing. Zildjian also sells a full line of crotales, gongs and many drum-related accessories like drum sticks and drum pads. And don’t forget about the apparel.
