Personalized Piano Lessons From Music & Arts

Music & Arts offers piano lessons for kids, teens and adults — whatever your age, the piano is a fantastic instrument for fun and self-expression.

We can help any student reach their musical goals on piano. Master the fundamentals, take classical piano lessons, perform Broadway hits and jazz standards, play in your worship service or jam on classic rock. Perfect for solo performance or in a band, the piano is also an ideal tool for vocal accompaniment, composition, arranging and deepening your understanding of music theory.

Learning to play an instrument supports cognitive development and improves mental health, and our teachers prioritize making lessons a comfortable and enriching experience.

Is There a Minimum Age to Learn Piano?

All children are different. They grow and develop at different rates and have different aptitudes. While we generally recommend 5 as a minimum age for piano lessons, we encourage you to stop by your local Music & Arts to speak with our piano teachers or store associates. They'll help you and your child determine if it's a good time to join our lessons program.

Ages 5 and up recommended for beginner piano players

As for the maximum age to begin piano lessons … there's no limit! Although age-related mobility issues can make learning piano more challenging, we encourage anyone interested in playing music to visit their local Music & Arts and try out an instrument.

Piano Lessons FAQs

Why learn to play piano?

Versatile and expressive, the piano is a staple of daily life. We hear it in symphony halls, jazz clubs, rock venues, Broadway theaters, church — wherever there's music, there's often a piano. It's the ideal instrument for performing solo, delivering music with remarkable breadth and depth. It also contributes brilliantly to a wide range of ensembles, from R&B bands to orchestras, and its rich, resonant sound is one of the most beautiful and powerful in all of music.

The piano is the premier tool for composers and arrangers, who are drawn to its orchestral range, its ability to blend melody and harmony with ease, and the linear, intuitive layout of its keyboard. For these reasons it's a favorite of music educators, who rely on it to teach music theory, ear training and other fundamental concepts to students of all instruments.

Beyond its remarkable utility, the piano is incredibly fun! Learning to play can relieve stress, boost self-esteem and encourage self-expression. Join Music & Arts' lessons program and discover the joy that the piano can bring to your family.

Do piano students need to have an acoustic piano at home?

Not at all. Music & Arts offers a wide selection of digital pianos and keyboards designed to closely replicate the sound and feel of an acoustic piano. With realistic tone and weighted, touch-sensitive keys, they provide an authentic playing experience. Our lesson studios are equipped with full-range, 88-key digital pianos to support students at every level.

To learn more about digital pianos and keyboards for lessons, consult our guide or stop by your nearest Music & Arts location.

How long does it take to learn the piano?

No two musicians learn the same way, so there's no set timeline for progress on the piano. How quickly you advance depends largely on how much you practice.

That said, many of Music & Arts' most dedicated students are playing familiar melodies and basic chords within a few weeks of their first lesson — sometimes within a few days!

How much do piano lessons cost?

Piano lessons at Music & Arts are affordable, averaging just $37 for a private half-hour lesson with a professional teacher and $67 for a full hour. Prices vary by store location and individual teacher.

For new students, we offer a free trial lesson with no purchase necessary. It's the ideal way to discover how our lessons can help you realize your musical goals.

Is paying for piano lessons worth it?

Why should you pay for piano lessons when there is so much free instructional content available online? Simply put, because there is no substitute for in-person lessons with a vetted professional teacher. The mentorship that occurs in a Music & Arts lesson studio cannot be replicated through an online video clip, an app or even via Zoom.

To start, in-person lessons allow our expert teachers to customize a plan just for you. Because no two musicians have the same gifts and tastes, online tutorials can never offer the same level of care and precision as our tailored in-person lessons. Taking regular weekly lessons with an experienced teacher also gives you motivation to practice. After every lesson, you'll have new techniques, songs and ideas to hone. At the next lesson, you'll perform what you've learned for your teacher, who will provide constructive, thoughtful feedback. This weekly guidance will accelerate your progression while offering the personal satisfaction that comes with gaining new skills.

An in-person professional teacher can observe your technique with unmatched clarity, and will know instantly if your hand position or posture needs improvement, your rhythm is off, or you're misinterpreting dynamic markings in a piece. When it comes to helping you improve your playing and build your musical knowledge, face-to-face communication with your teacher is far more effective and efficient than screens. During your lesson, a private teacher will also help you maintain focus — free of common at-home distractions ranging from pets to internet hiccups.

Finally, lessons at Music & Arts allow you to feel the joy of in-person mentorship. Again and again, researchers have proven that in-person activities like music lessons relieve stress, boost mood and improve self-esteem. Music & Arts teachers often become beloved figures in their students' lives. Their encouragement helps build self-confidence that stays with their students, regardless of the paths or interests they choose to follow later on.

How do I sign up for piano lessons?

Does Music & Arts offer music lessons for instruments other than the piano?
