Best Reeds I've Found So Far

Unlike any others, I have no luck with Vandoren products, and Ricos are of course rather sub-par for more serious playing. Zondas were good at first, but demand forced quality to fall. Mitchell Luries are stuffy in the low register. For a long time, I was reduced to buying multiple boxes of Vandoren...

one good out of ten

Having just played through a box of ten of these, it was a nightmare. The first reed played beautifully. The next nine were the opposite of free-blowing. Every note was a struggle, even though these were the strength I always play. I even went back to the Mitchell Lurie reed I use to see if somethin...

Very inconsistent and stuffy

Only 2 of these reeds were playable. The rest were probably the stuffiest reeds I've ever used. On top of that they claim these are softare than the Vandorens Rulepic 56 3.0s, but that is just not true, most of the Rigottis were harder and much stuffier than the Vandorens. I just can't recommend these, they clearly have a poor QA process, and it doesn't seem they know how hard their reeds actually are.

So much for the "best cane in the world". Reeds are overly stiff even after adjusting. Sound dull, stuffy and unresponsive. No better than the horrible Vandoren's I'm desperately trying to get away from!!!

I usually play VDOREN V 12's 3.5. I learned to adjust reeds from Joe Allard . I use Rigotti reeds on alto and tenor sax, so I thought I would give the clarinet reeds a try.

An old friend revisited

Once Rigotti was my go to reed, but searched for a better reed, over all. Vandoren fit my needs better, but I thought I'd revisit the Rigottis. They are a good reed, and good for students, (partly due to the cost), but I guess I have moved on. I did order a too soft reed, and have had to work with just about all of them, but that isn't the fault of the reed at all. I've actually gotten some of them to play quite well. They are definitely worth a try, but they just "ain't" for me.

I have bought Rigotti reeds many times

Classical orchestral and chamber player. These reeds are always reliable. They give a good clarinet "sound" from chalumeau to altissimo and stay playable for a long time. Over the last few years, I have switched from other makers to Rigotti almost completely. I am now using the "softer" 2.5 (strong and light) strength, and I find the range of color from brilliant to dark as I have with the "harder" reeds - even into the altissimo register. Articulation is clean and crisp; dynamic range is huge.

Recent Decline

Unable to retract my earlier positive remarks, let me just say that my recent boxes of Rigotti reeds have been not even close to what they used to be.
